Evidence at the edge of what we know.

DeFi Rate puts odds of qualifying U.S. extraterrestrial declaration by 2026 at 4.5%

The September 1 tracker aggregates contracts requiring a definitive statement from specified U.S. authorities—not evidence that extraterrestrial life exists. Its venue prices and underlying disclosures were not independently verified for this report.

A DeFi Rate tracker published September 1 put the aggregate Yes price for a prediction-market bet on a U.S. confirmation of extraterrestrial life or technology before 2027 at 4.5%, versus 95.5% for No.

The page listed Yes prices of 5.4% on Kalshi, 3.8% on Polymarket and 7.0% on Polymarket US, with $1.9 million in rolling 30-day activity across included venues.

They are prices for narrowly worded contracts when the tracker was captured, not scientific findings or a U.S. assessment of extraterrestrial life.

The threshold is an official declaration

DeFi Rate says the contracts ask whether the United States will definitively confirm extraterrestrial life or technology by December 31, 2026. A Yes outcome requires a statement from the president, a qualifying Cabinet official, a Joint Chiefs member or a U.S. federal agency.

It is a forecast about a defined official act before a deadline, not a direct wager on whether life exists elsewhere. The tracker says unexplained footage, unidentified-object accounts or statements that life elsewhere is statistically plausible would not alone meet the threshold.

A binary-contract price can be read as an implied market probability, but may also reflect liquidity, order-book depth, trading costs and differing interpretations of the rules.

Disclosure releases did not meet the stated bar

  • May 8 to August 7: DeFi Rate says the Pentagon published previously unreleased UAP records through a system it calls PURSUE on May 8, May 22, June 12, July 10 and August 7.
  • After the fifth release: The publisher says that batch added 41 files and videos, bringing the public collection to 162 files, citing reporting published afterward. It characterizes the material as unresolved military sightings, imagery and witness accounts, not an official confirmation of extraterrestrial life or technology.
  • February 20: The tracker reports Kalshi’s Yes price briefly reached about 30% after a directive to identify and release government UFO and UAP files, then fell to the mid-single digits.
  • August 7 to August 27: DeFi Rate reports its aggregate Yes measure fell from 6.2% to 3.9%; Kalshi moved from 6.8% to 5.4% and Polymarket from 5.5% to 3.8%.

What the price can and cannot say

The framing sets a higher bar than releasing records: a definitive statement from a specified U.S. authority, rather than access to unresolved cases. A transparency initiative, new videos or a prominent official’s comments may draw attention without determining the outcome.

DeFi Rate cautions that its event-by-event comparisons are descriptive and do not establish that a listed event caused a market move. The low Yes price is therefore a snapshot of expectations for the public-confirmation deadline, not an empirical estimate of whether extraterrestrial life exists.

What has not been independently checked

  • This report relies on one recovered publisher source. Individual venue prices, trading volumes, cited government releases, comments and research described on DeFi Rate’s page have not been independently verified here.
  • The reviewed material does not include Kalshi or Polymarket rule pages, first-party government records, the cited research preprint or transcripts of reported official remarks.
  • Further document releases or congressional activity may affect trading, but the tracker describes resolution as depending on a qualifying statement before the deadline. The market price should remain separate from independently sourced evidence about any UAP case or extraterrestrial life itself.
