Terence Winter and filmmaker Dan Farah are developing a television series based on Out of the Shadows, the forthcoming memoir by former U.S. intelligence official Jay Stratton, The Debrief reported September 24. William Morrow is scheduled to publish the book on October 13, 2026.
Stratton led the U.S. government’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, or UAPTF, according to The Debrief. The memoir is described as an account of his government UAP work and bureaucratic obstacles he encountered while seeking to resolve the nature and origin of reported phenomena.
Winter and Farah join the project
Winter, known for The Sopranos and as creator of Boardwalk Empire, is expected to executive produce through Cold Front Productions. The Debrief, citing Variety, reported that Farah will executive produce through Farah Films.
Winter wrote the Academy Award-nominated screenplay adaptation of The Wolf of Wall Street. Farah directed The Age of Disclosure, a documentary featuring more than 30 current and former U.S. officials discussing UAP, national-security concerns and disclosure efforts, according to The Debrief, and produced James Fox’s The Phenomenon.
The book will center on Stratton’s work in official UAP inquiries, The Debrief reported. The prospective series is also intended to explore how his classified work affected his home life. The book reportedly describes unusual events experienced by family members during his government service, part of Stratton’s personal account as summarized by The Debrief.
Farah characterized the material as a political thriller with a central mystery. Winter described it as an entry into a less familiar side of government UAP investigations, The Debrief reported.
