Cookie policy

This policy describes the current website configuration, including consent-managed Google Analytics. It must be reviewed before advertising, embedded tracking, reader accounts, comments, newsletter technology or any additional non-essential service is enabled.

Current use

The public site uses a first-party aggregate audience counter that does not set analytics cookies, use local storage or create a visitor identifier. Google Analytics is connected through Google Site Kit but remains denied until a reader accepts analytics. Advertising storage, behavioural profiling, ad personalisation and newsletter tracking are not enabled. WordPress and Hostinger may use technical storage that is strictly necessary to deliver pages, protect the service, manage caching or maintain an authenticated editor session.

Aggregate audience measurement

The site records daily totals for views, 30-second engagement and 50% and 90% scroll depth by content and broad source channel. No analytics cookie or similar device storage is used. The audience dataset does not contain a unique visitor identifier, raw referrer, IP address or user agent, and Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track are respected.

Cookie inventory

  • mu_analytics_consent — Measured Unknown; necessary preference; records accept or reject for 180 days.
  • _ga — Google Analytics; analytics; distinguishes browser instances for measurement for up to two years; set only after consent.
  • _ga_<container-id> — Google Analytics; analytics; maintains session state for up to two years; set only after consent.

Consent

Analytics is denied by default. The banner gives equally prominent Accept analytics and Reject analytics choices. A rejection leaves Google Analytics storage denied. Readers can reopen Privacy choices in the site footer and change their decision at any time. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals are treated as a rejection.

Editor sessions

WordPress sets authentication and preference cookies when an authorised editor signs in. These are used for account security, session management and administration rather than public audience measurement.

Future changes

Before any non-essential service is added, the public policy must identify the cookie or storage name, provider, purpose, category, duration and whether it is first- or third-party. Readers must be able to refuse non-essential use and withdraw consent as easily as they give it.
