Bylines identify who takes editorial responsibility for an article. Measured Unknown does not use invented journalist identities.

Measured Unknown Editorial Desk

The Measured Unknown Editorial Desk is the publication’s institutional byline for reported articles produced under the publication’s editorial standards. It is not the name of a fictional person and should not be read as one.

Work carrying this byline should be based on attributable source material, distinguish claims from established facts, identify important unknowns and pass editorial and source checks before publication.

Named authors and contributors

A real person’s name is used when that person has performed original reporting, conducted an interview, reviewed source material, written analysis or otherwise made a substantial editorial contribution. Their profile should state relevant experience, areas covered and any material conflict.

Institutional analysis

Where an analysis represents the publication’s editorial judgement rather than one person’s view, it may be attributed to Measured Unknown Analysis. The article must still show the facts and reasoning supporting the conclusion.
